With just two rounds remaining, it's time to find out who is the true king of the virtual INDYCAR road. The INDYCAR iRacing Challenge returns to a natural road course after two consecutive oval races with the AutoNation INDYCAR Challenge at 2:30 p.m. ET Saturday, April 25 at virtual Circuit of the Americas (COTA). The 32-lap race on the 20-turn, 3.427-mile circuit at COTA, located in Austin, Texas, will be televised live on NBCSN.
Lot's of newcomers
We’re approaching the halfway mark of the IMSA iRacing Pro Invitational Series next week, with the third of six rounds taking place at the virtual Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Thursday, April 30, at 6 p.m. ET. The track is a fitting location, as several IMSA racing series would have been onsite next weekend in Lexington, Ohio in real life for the Acura Sports Car Challenge. While racing activities next weekend have turned virtual, the actual event is rescheduled to take place on September 25-27.
A look back
Back in 1961, Roger Maris walloped 61 home runs for the New York Yankees, breaking Babe Ruth’s 1927 mark of 60 homers. But since Maris needed seven more games to set his mark, Major League Baseball attached an asterisk to his mark, one that stood for many years. The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli also has its asterisks, attached to its driver champions from 1966 through 1971. Here’s how that happened.
In a Lotus at Estoril
It was 35 years ago, in monsoon conditions, that a determined young Brazilian raced to his first Formula 1 victory and cemented his name in motorsport folklore. It was Sunday 21 April and the 1985 Portuguese Grand Prix. Behind the wheel of a Lotus 97T was Ayrton Senna, just turned 25 years old. With the car at the absolute limit of its grip, he delivered a masterclass in wet-weather driving for the hardy Estoril crowd and powered to the checkered flag. Such was his dominance he lapped the entire field up to second place, finishing over a minute ahead of his nearest competitor.
Team Penske always the best
Supercars ran three races in their virtual iRacing Series today at virtual Bathurst with IndyCar star Will Power joining the action in the #66 Penske Ford Mustang. Shane van Gisbergen claimed Race 8, holding off a spirited challenge by wildcard Brodie Kostecki. Fabian Coulthard dominated Race 9 to lead an all-Ford top four lockout for the Shell V-Power Racing Team. A post-race investigation handed Scott McLaughlin victory over Brodie Kostecki in Race 10.
Austria and Silverstone to open F1 season with 'ghost' races
Austria and Silverstone appear to be headlining F1's return to racing action. It is believed a new race calendar will be published as soon as May, with the first two or three races to be held at the Red Bull Ring, followed by Silverstone. 'We have been asked if we could hold a race or two and could they be behind closed doors,' Silverstone boss Stuart Pringle told the Guardian. 'The answer is absolutely, we are open to looking into anything and everything.'
Leclerc holds off Albon for win in Virtual Chinese GP
Back-to-back wins for Leclerc
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc made it back-to-back Virtual GP victories on Sunday after an epic race-long battle with F1 Red Bull rival Alex Albon around the Shanghai circuit. Albon pushed Leclerc hard throughout F1's third official Esports race, even undercutting him in the pits, but it was the Monegasque who came out on top after a risky overtake into Turn One, nudging Albon aside for another race win.
Leads 96 of 150 laps
William Byron adds to his impressive iRacing resume by winning the Toyota Owners 150 at virtual Richmond Raceway in his No. 24 AXALTA Chevrolet, his second-consecutive victory in the eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series.

Auto Racing News
Team Penske wins again
For the 2nd week in a row Team Penske's Simon Pagenaud won the iRacing IndyCar race, this week at Twin Ring Motegi in Japan. He held off Ganassi Racing's Scott Dixon and fellow Team Penske driver Will Power. Will Power and Team Penske teammate Scott McLaughlin appeared to be headed to a 1-2 finish but the lapped car of Oliver Askew hit both Penske cars, McLaughlin spinning into the wall and Power losing a right front wing that ruined the handling of his car.
Record 33 entries
As the INDYCAR iRacing Challenge leaves the United States for the first time Saturday, April 18, three fan favorites of American motorsports who are new to the virtual racing series are coming along for the ride. Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves, 2017 Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge winner Takuma Sato and two-time reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch will make their respective series debuts in the Firestone 175 on the 1.549-mile oval at Twin Ring Motegi in Motegi, Japan.
