- Upgrade when you can – The key to success in Arkham Underworld is strengthening your base. Not only does this give you more protection from attack, it ups your gang level and unlocks new content for you to tackle.
- Use your villains – It’s tempting to stick with just one villain, but try and take them all out for a spin as often as you can. You’ll get boosts for doing so, and it means they’ll all be as tough as each other if you ever need to utilize their special skills.
- Keep your goons happy – Adding bits of recreating equipment to your hideout keeps your henchmen happy, but they also generate cash and respect that can be vital later on in the game. Adding hackers is a great idea too.
Fights
- Lead from the front – Your super villain has way more health than your goons, so make sure they’re front and center of any attack soaking up the hits. You can also move them if they’re taking too much damage.
- Time your specials – Work out how long the cooldown of your special moves is and make sure you don’t waste them. Chucking them out willy nilly could leave you exposed when it comes to the tougher fights that usually pop up at the end of challenges.
- Don’t go all in – Sometimes it’s sensible to hold back some of your goons for the later stages of an assault. Keeping a melee bruiser in reserve usually makes short work of the final boss, whereas chucking one in early often ends with them in a bloody pool on the floor before you get there.
- Change your options – Remember that some levels have diamond safes that you can smash open to get more of the currency. Try and target these as much as possible, as they’re incredibly useful when it comes to speeding things up at your hideout.

- Hit other players hard and smart – Taking on rival gangs in PvP is a great way to boost your coffers. Scout their locations well and figure out the best route of attack. And when you’re getting beaten back, look at the tactics and positioning the other player is using and see if they’d work in your hideout.
- Build and upgrade smart – If you’ve got big upgrades to make, or new powers to give to your villains, try and time it so you’re setting them to build at the end of your play through. That way they’re not going to interfere with your playing, they’re not going to cost gems to finish quickly and they’ll be ready when you come back next time.
- Upgrade your vault – Your vault dictates the amount of cash you can have at any one time. After an hour or so you won’t be able to hold as much as you need to upgrade certain other important structures. Make making your storage here as big as possible your priority and you’ll be on to a winner.

1. Complete the headlines!
Quests, or this game likes to call them, “headlines,” can be accessed by tapping the newspaper at the top left corner of the main menu. These function like your typical mobile game quests. Complete the listed objective and reap the benefits! Each headline has multiple levels to it, and they can be complete three times before they are maxed out. You will always receive diamonds as a reward for completing headlines, so it is in your best interest to complete as many of these as you can!
2. Keep moving your super-villain!
Unlike your thugs, your super-villain remains under your direct control at all times. This means that once they finish an order you assign them to, you will need to reassign them a new position or target to attack. Be sure that you do not let your super-villain fall behind your thugs. Without a super-villain to take the hits, your thugs will go down very quickly and you will be left with no back up!
3. Use the right super-villain for the job!
You will learn quickly on that you should always have your super-villain lead the charge for your thugs. While this is a generally good strategy, it is important to keep in mind that certain super-villains are more “tanky” compared to the others, whether that means they have higher health or they have abilities that help them mitigate damage. For example, the second active ability the Riddler can learn is “Holograms”. This ability creates decoys of the Riddler and while they do not deal any damage, they can absorb hits for him. Be sure to consider all of your super-villains and their abilities before you commit to one for a mission!
4. Distribute your skill points wisely!
Super-villains must spend skill points to learn new… skills! They gain experience when they go on missions and once they have collected enough, they will level up and earn a skill point to spend. Choose your skills wisely! If at any point you wish to reallocate the super-villains skill points, you must spend 10 diamonds to do so.
5. Use your active ability often!
Each super-villain has active abilities they can learn and use throughout the course of the game, and they are very powerful. Riddler’s starting ability is “Question Arc”, a high powered blast of electricity directed as a beam. Harley Quinn’s “Jack of Hearts” is a sentry gun disguised as a present. As a bonus, it self-destructs once it uses up all of its ammo, damaging any nearby enemies! Both of these active abilities have a relatively short 15 second cooldown between uses, so do not be afraid to use them. A mission going haywire can be fixed with liberal use of abilities!
6. Buy a lot of luxury items!
Luxury items will generate Respect points for you, allowing you buy better thugs and the like. Not only that though, but you want to make sure that you place them all over your hideout. During a hideout defense when another player tries to raid your hideout, your positioned thugs will be able to use furniture and the like as cover, helping them survive longer.
